Fitzroy North House

This project for a growing family in Fitzroy North balances the need for both separation and interconnectedness between spaces in a compact family home. The client’s inherent respect for the neighbourhood and local context inspired us to create a design solution that responds sympathetically to its site and provides all the functionality and flexibility required of a family home.

Rigorous space planning combined with the need to create rooms that are joyful and full of natural light were the focus of this project. A new partially submerged double storey addition with asymmetrical gable roof and a north facing central courtyard are designed to create comfortable, light filled spaces that encourage incidental interactions and foster interconnectedness.
